The McKean Township Trustees met in regular session September 12, 2016 with Trustees Wintermute, McInturff, Schwartzenberger, and Fiscal Officer Ellas answering roll call. Trustee Wintermute led the group in the pledge to our flag.
Audience-Casey Curtis, newly appointed Fire Chief of Granville Twp Fire Department stopped by to introduce himself to the board and answer any questions McKean had. He explained that the department will be run as before at the same location. Trustee Melanie Schott from Granville explained they are now working with Granville Village looking at several locations for a joint location of police and fire. Trustee Schott also discussed with the McKean Trustees their decision to not include Dry Creek Road in the Ohio Scenic Byway sponsored by the State. Trustee Wintermute stated the trustees voted in June to not include our road because they felt it would encourage more traffic with cars and bicycles throughout our township. Trustee Schott thanked the trustees and will let them know how the report to the state turns out.
Several landowners from Phillips Road stopped in to discuss lowering the speed limit on Phillips Rd. After much discussion about lowing road speed limits which are currently 55 mile per hour, Trustee McInturff, seconded Trustee Wintermute, all agreed to table the request until next meeting, giving McKean time to research the procedure and talk to Phillips Road residents.
Reports-Motion by Trustee Wintermute, seconded Trustee McInturff, all agreed to accept the fund balances, bank reconciliation, purchase orders, and blanket certificates as presented. Motion by Trustee McInturff, seconded Trustee Wintermute, all agreed to pay an additional $20,000.00 on the road loan principal for the year.
Road Supervisor-The road supervisor reported we had one funeral and the road side mowing should be done September 22. One resident on Sunnyside Road still has not fixed his drive culvert as requested. Trustee McInturff agreed to contact the County Prosecutor office for advice. Terry reported that one of the part time help will be off for several weeks for a death in the family.
New Business-Motion by Trustee Wintermute, seconded Trustee McInturff, all agreed to pay all the current month’s bills and accept the minutes. Copies had been given to the trustees from the County Auditor office showing the tax and levy monies to be received for 2017. Motion by Trustee Wintermute, seconded Trustee McInturff, all agreed to accept the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the County Auditor, all agreed.
After discussing the conditions of the roads including north Lafayette and talking with the road supervisor about the extra traffic on Dry Creek and Phillips Rd from the movie being produced partly in our Township, motion to adjourn by Trustee Wintermute, all agreed.
